I started having lessons with Karl a couple of months ago. Having played to above grade 8 level as a teenager, I’d had a gap of over 20 years without playing followed by a year of lessons as an adult before stopping playing again during the pandemic. I started lessons with Karl knowing that there was a lot of scope for improvement in my playing and technique but with very little idea of how to tackle it. Despite this Karl very quickly figured out what level my playing was at and where the main issues were, striking a good balance of plenty to work on but without this being overwhelming. Even in a short space of time I can hear concrete improvements in my playing. The fact that he is very focussed on detail and has been able to help me try different technical approaches to passages of music and suggest different ways of practicing has been just what I needed. I was initially pretty nervous returning to lessons again after the time out, but Karl is very patient and approachable and that’s really helped me to get the most from my lessons and start to get back some lost confidence and enjoy playing again.

Ewa, thank you very much for the lessons. I have written this feedback as a review for other students to see. -- Ewa is an extremely professional, friendly, and positive tutor with vast knowledge about piano technique and repertoire. I had lessons with Ewa between October 2020 and May 2021 before moving abroad. During this time I learned: -repertoire by Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Rameau, and Debussy - finger posture and the effects of adjusting the finger angle - how to use touch to control dynamics - active listening while playing - score interpretation according to general customs as well as individual composers' practices - practice organisation for efficient usage of time - how to isolate and drill the hardest bits in a challenging section -ways to make decisions about dynamics when they aren't written in the score -how to divide a complex phrase into logical sections -which moments can be important in a piece and how to show importance to the audience/listener -the importance of ending a phrase softly -matching dynamic levels within a phrase and much more. She helped me to prepare for a Grade 8 performance exam, giving advice about choice of repertoire, choice of editions, and how to manage the different stages of practice for each piece. Importantly, Ewa is very easy to talk to. Whenever I had a question, she took it seriously and gave as thorough an answer as was needed. She would also tell me if she thought I was focusing on something that wouldn't benefit me with my goals, and I found this really helpful. For example, I was curious about advanced music theory. She told me this is a worthy thing to study, but told me would not benefit me much as a piano teacher (I was considering being one), and this was good to know. I really enjoyed my lessons with Ewa. Having had piano lessons before, I can say that she taught me more, and in more detail, than my other teachers. Also, as a bonus, many things I learned from Ewa also apply to other areas of music. For example, the knowledge she gave me about phrases is relevant to singing as well, and I now notice when listening to pop music when a singer does a diminuendo at the end of a phrase! All in all, I can't recommend Ewa highly enough as a piano teacher. She is phenomenal at this job, and it is clearly something she really enjoys as well. If you want lessons with a great, friendly teacher who will make you at ease while encouraging you to achieve the most you can, then you will be very, very satisfied. Thank you very much for all you taught me, Ewa. I wish you all the best!

One could not ask for more from a piano tutor. Salome has amazing attention to detail which amazes me even with online tutoring. It is obvious she has an abundance of knowledge and experience in the study of piano. She will try to pitch it at the level you require, whilst at the same time pushing you so that you can make speedy progress. I have found that my piano playing is progressing very well as an adult learner with Salome. I highly recommend Salome as a tutor. Her friendly and honest approach and her love for piano and music is undeniable, and she is very keen to share this passion for music with you.

As a classically trained pianist, I have really enjoyed working with Adam for a few sessions on learning a variety of techniques for jazz playing. He is able to demonstrate easily on the keyboard online and has a calm and patient manner, as well as being an excellent pianist himself. I started lessons with Ed a few months ago after a 15 year gap, and I’m really pleased with how I’ve progressed in my playing and confidence over this time. Ed is very friendly, professional, patient and good at explaining things in different ways. He is really knowledgeable about all aspects of playing, as well as the theory, musical context, and useful tips for practising! Because of the covid situation, most of my lessons have been virtual and this has gone really smoothly, I haven’t noticed the difference. I’m really glad to have Ed as my teacher.
