Personal Description:
I am full-time musician pursuing a solo music and band work career with a passion for sharing my knowledge with others! With my recent single reaching over 170k streams on Spotify and both my band and solo work paired with music labels, I can offer a fresh and individual approach to teaching.
I been teaching piano, drums and composition for the last 5 years as a peripatetic teacher as well as teaching music to GCSE students at St Mark's Academy. Currently, I decided to teach privately as I prefer taking on a wider range of ages and having long-term goals that we can set together.
By being a professional musician as well as a tutor, I can offer students a versatile range of skills which they normally could not find. I teach students the in’s and out’s of live performance, composition and improvisation as well as more classic, orthodox piano and drum tuition which includes grades and music theory. I enjoy the challenge developing a unique teaching plan for every student to cater for their individual needs.
Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions!
Many thanks,
Jake
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching both piano and drums for 5 years, both privately and at a secondary school. I have taught students aged 5 - 78 and have an in-depth knowledge of how to cater for different students.
I am currently being taught by Gabor Dornyei, one of the leading drummers in the world, and would love to pass on any advice I can give to my students!
As well as this, I have completed and passed Music A level and grade 5 theory (Merit). I play both Piano and Drums above Grade 8 standard and I am DBS checked.
Tutoring Approach:
I try to help my students learn in whatever way they find most enjoyable and productive. I try to determine how a student best learns, then follow this path to help them reach their goals.
I am happy to work through grades with students, however, I do not force this upon them. I am also happy to teach them without grades with a focus on what they want to learn. and what they find most enjoyable. Through teaching in this way, I make sure each of my students progresses in what they are most interested in, whilst having as much fun as possible!

I’m delighted with my sons progress.

He is very calm, patient and clear in his instructions. Importantly he makes lessons fun and exciting by the varied grade pieces played as well as his encouragement of personal compositions and expression. Jake’s extremely experienced approach has made all the difference to my son’s enthusiasm for music and his playing skills have improved significantly in a very short period. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for his on-going support in teaching him and would not hesitate in recommending him to others.
