Personal Description:

9 years teaching piano and theory. Concert pianist, Researcher and Teaching Assistant at the Royal College of Music London. Master of Music [Distinction] and BMus (Hons) [First] from RCM

From Singapore: English is my main language. I am bilingual and have also taught in Chinese.

I have performed in Paris, Brussels, Budapest, Venice and Padua, and within London: at the Steinway Hall, Regent Hall, Old Royal Naval College, St-Martin-in-the-Fields, V&A Museum, St James Piccadilly and Leighton House Museum.

Tutoring Experience:

My students have achieved ABRSM/TCL G1-8 Practical and Theory with distinctions and merits. Some have won prizes at the Stratford and East London Music Festival. I have also mentored university students requiring extra help with piano technique.

I have 8 years of teaching experience with students aged 5-40, ranging from beginner level to advanced performers. I help children and teenagers fix technical issues, if they would like to, and it improves their playing significantly. I am also able to accommodate ONLINE Skype and video lessons for remote learning.

My current studio includes students working on ABRSM/Trinity G1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and Diploma. I also take on adult students and pop/jazz or crossover pianists who want to explore classical training. My only criteria is that students commit to their learning, appreciate music, and set suitable goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, professional and enthusiastic in my work. I cater lessons to suit individual needs and enjoy communicating with my students. I believe in a systematic approach where working for solid technique and musical enjoyment can happen at the same time. I encourage an all-rounded understanding of the piano, and teach all my students effective practice strategies they can follow. Students are welcome to two discounted trial lessons before we confirm the lesson arrangements (first at 50% and second at 25%). A playlist portfolio of my students is available upon request.

For those whose parents wish to be more directly involved in their child's learning, I am ok with them sitting in during lessons so long as it is not disruptive. I regularly update parents who wish to keep up with their child's progress.

I’m based in Greenwich, where I have a good piano. Any level of learning or goal is welcome, so long as you’re committed to regular weekly lessons. For diploma students working towards an exam, the fee is £70/h.
