Concert Pianist and Experienced Teacher for Piano and Theory with 8 years of experience. Master of Music with Distinction (MMus) and Bachelor of Music (Hons) with First Class - Royal College of Music Scholar. From 2020, PhD researcher at the Royal College of Music.
Moved to London from Singapore in 2012, English is my main language, I am bilingual as well with Mandarin Chinese.
I have performed in Budapest, Venice and Padua, and within London: at the Steinway Hall, Regent Hall, Old Royal Naval College, St-Martin-in-the-Fields, V&A Museum, St James Piccadilly and Leighton House Museum. Competition successes include prizes at the Cesar Franck competition in Belgium and Citta di Padova competition in Italy. I was a BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014 Keyboard Finalist and received the Esther Fisher Prize from RCM.
I have 8 years of teaching experience with students aged 5-40, ranging from beginner level to advanced performers. I have particularly developed experience in helping children and teenagers fix technical issues and improve their playing significantly. I am also able to accommodate ONLINE Skype and video lessons for remote learning.
My current studio includes a few beginners, and students doing ABRSM/Trinity grades 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and Diploma levels. I also have several adult students with a wide range of levels and goals, and can work with pop/jazz or crossover pianists who want to explore classical training.
I have had students pass ABRSM grades 1-8 with distinctions and merits, as well as theory exams with distinctions. I have also taught students at diploma level or university students requiring extra help with piano technique. I have experience teaching children or adults who wish to learn more casually and flexibly without following an exam syllabus.
I am patient, professional and enthusiastic in my work. I cater lessons to suit individual needs and enjoy communicating with my students. I believe in a systematic approach where working for solid technique and musical enjoyment can happen at the same time. I encourage an all-rounded understanding of the piano, and teach all my students effective practice strategies.
For those whose parents wish to be more directly involved in their child's learning, I am ok with them sitting in during lessons so long as it is not disruptive. I regularly update parents who wish to keep up with their child's progress.
I’m based in Greenwich, where I have a good piano. Due to my schedule, I travel to few students depending on time and distance, with additional fee for travel. Any level of learning is welcome, so long as you’re committed to regular weekly lessons.
