The government of Wales judges the performance of their primary and secondary schools slightly differently from those in England. While they do still measure progress and mastery levels with GCSE results, schools are also evaluated according to wider criteria, which includes the quality of learning and teaching, as well as wellbeing. There are four colour-coded categories that indicate the level of support the government believes each school needs. Schools that are ranked Green are considered to be the best performing. Specifically, the colours indicate:
