Personal Description:
Hello! I am a 60 year old professional software trainer.
I began my working life as a professional photographer but discovered a passion for computers when I bought an Amstrad PCW many years ago to do the accounts.
Eventually I discovered I had a natural ability to "drive" a computer and re-trained. I work for an agency providing corporate IT training on a part-time basis, and have recently discovered the joy of private tutoring. I can teach more efficiently to one than I can to half a dozen!
Training Experience:
I have taught dozens of packages and operating systems over the years for many clients including Government Departments and Agencies.
I have also helped new businesses by demonstrating how easily accounts can be kept, even for a limited company, without specialist software.
My favourite area is the fusion between Photography and Computers…
Training Approach:
Training succeeds or fails depending almost entirely on the relationship between the trainer and the client. I allow extra time (at my own expense) on the first session so that the client and I can get to know each other.
I am brutally honest about my own abilities and don't take on training in areas where I am not totally at ease, (for example Databases!).
I don't teach from books; there's no point. If that is all I could offer I might as well just give the client the book!
I do expect trainees or clients to be prepared to do a bit of work themselves. I am known for setting "homework" to encourage clients to learn to teach themselves to a degree.
