  1. How is First Tutors: I.T. different?

First Tutors: I.T. enables IT trainers to promote themselves through profiles for free. Only when an IT trainer is matched with a client do we make a small charge, i.e. when the advertising has proved its value. First Tutors: I.T. is unique for clients in giving greater choice to the end customer.

  2. What is the difference between First Tutors: I.T. and going to an agency?

Firstly, First Tutors: I.T. is open 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week: you can always go online and request a trainer. This is a huge help for small business owners and hobbyists who need to access the service outside of regular working hours. First Tutors: I.T. is a very fast way of finding and selecting an IT trainer because trainers are informed instantly and can often come back within the hour to confirm availability. Rather than talking to a middle man and waiting to hear which trainers are available, our system enables you to contact the trainers directly and ask them your questions. First Tutors: I.T. is also very competitively priced: the average agency charges large commissions on top of every hour of training, whereas we only charge a client £4.99-19.99* for the release of their chosen trainer's details.

  3. Does First Tutors: I.T. offer support?

For clients experiencing technical difficulties, contact us via our online support form and we will help you with any difficulty.

For clients seeking advice on choosing a trainer, read Which Tutor? or for commencing IT lessons please see Your First IT Lesson.

We recognise that many of our trainers will have strong views on web development and usability so welcome your feedback in this respect - we can build a better site if you tell us what you want!

  4. Why should I use First Tutors: I.T.?

First Tutors: I.T. provides a built-in review facility - we invite feedback from clients about how their IT training lessons have gone. For clients, this provides objective advice, whilst also giving the best IT trainers a platform upon which to shine. Of course, we mention this alongside the other benefits of a wide variety of trainers and competitive pricing!

  5. I need an IT trainer for a specialism not listed here, can you help?

Contact us and we'll make every effort to help you.

  6. How do I give feedback?

We much appreciate feedback and where appropriate usually act on it very swiftly - use our feedback form to tell us what you think. If you are trying to give feedback about a specific trainer, please login to your member's area and click on 'My Feedback.' This option appears after two weeks so you have a little time to get to know the trainer before giving an opinion.

  7. Who uses First Tutors: I.T.?
    • Individuals looking to develop their IT skills for professional or personal reasons.
    • Companies seeking to effectively enhance the skills of their employees.

Frequently Asked Questions by Clients and Learners

  1. At what point do I have to pay?

Only when you have chosen to accept a trainer's offer of training do we charge a £4.99-19.99* introduction fee. It is free to search, browse and contact trainers. You must pay your trainer their hourly rate directly.

  2. How do I choose a trainer?

Please see our article, Which Trainer? for guidance.

  3. How do I contact the trainers?

Contact a prospective trainer free of charge by becoming a member. Once your trainer has received and accepted your request we will release their contact details at your request, conditional upon you paying a £4.99-19.99* fee. We also e-mail the trainer your details simultaneously so you can both contact one another.

  4. I have not heard from a trainer and wish to release their details.

It may be your trainer is on holiday or temporarily unavailable. We contact all trainers as soon as you make your enquiry but cannot force them to respond. We would always recommend contacting more than one trainer.

Frequently Asked Questions by Trainers

  1. How will I hear from prospective clients?
  2. How do I commence providing training sessions?
  3. How do I change my profile?
  4. I understand clients can create feedback about me, how does this work?
  5. What if the client changes their mind and no longer requires training?
  6. Do I need a CRB check to be a trainer?
  7. What qualifications do I need to be an IT trainer?
  8. Do you employ trainers?
  9. I'm an international student, can I be a trainer?
  1. How will I hear from prospective clients?

We will e-mail you when a prospective client requests to hear from you and invite you to log in to your member area and respond to the request as soon as possible. Please note that IT trainers who do not respond to clients (neither accept or decline) will have their profiles suspended so other trainers can benefit from the opportunities.

  2. How do I commence providing training sessions?

Once the client has accepted your offer of training we will send you their contact details so you can call and arrange a first lesson. We would recommend acting on this quickly.

  3. How do I change my profile?

Once you have registered you can log in at any time to alter your profile or fees through your member's area.

  4. I understand clients can create feedback about me, how does this work?

After one month we invite clients to create a brief comment about their IT trainer. We recognise that the more good feedback you receive as a trainer, the more enquiries you are likely to attract. Of course, as a trainer you can also reply to and approve feedback.

  5. What if the client changes their mind and no longer requires training?

Most clients put a lot of thought into choosing their trainer so are unlikely to cancel before training commences. The usual reason for changing their mind is that the IT trainer has left a long period of time between receiving the client's contact details and initiating training which means the client becomes anxious and looks elsewhere. Please ask your client to contact us if this occurs.

  6. Do I need a CRB check to be a trainer?

No, given the majority of clients are likely to be over 18, though it helps to have references available for clients to see.

  7. What qualifications do I need to be an IT trainer?

First IT trainers come from all walks of life: many are professional trainers, some are academics, and occasionally some are students or retired professionals. Different clients look for different qualities and backgrounds in their trainers, which is why the ability to browse trainers is so attractive to clients. Browse the profiles of other trainers in your area if you are considering registering as an IT trainer.

  8. Do you employ trainers?

No, all trainers work on a self-employed basis.

  9. I'm an international student, can I be an IT trainer?

Whilst we don't object, we would recommend checking the terms of your visa to ensure you are allowed to work on a self-employed basis.
