Personal Description:

I am a Senior Software Developer with over 30 years of industry experience and have always enjoyed the challenge of a rapidly moving industry. I have designed and developed numerous business critical applications including Payroll systems, Quoting systems, Development tools, Marketing reports, Membership systems, Multimedia applications and Bank Reporting Systems. My professionalism and enthusiasm for the industry ensures that I have maintained a high standard of work throughout my career.

My skills not only include programming, but also installations, networking, PC / Server configuration, Database tuning, documentation, graphics and systems architecture.

Having been learning in the computer industry for such a long period of time, I think it is important to pass skills onto the younger generation so that they can also achieve the success that I have had.

Training Experience:

Throughout my career I have been involved in mentoring and providing support / training to junior team members in new technologies and languages.
I have been tutoring over the last year in GCSE Computer Science and I am familiar with both the AQA and WJEC computer science syllabus.

Training Approach:

Firstly I would establish an understanding with a tutee that the most important part of learning is the understanding of a subject, rather than just the learning of it.

I would start by identifying any gaps in the understanding of the individual (based on mock papers / teachers feedback etc.) and initially concentrate on these areas to improve the confidence within the subject. I would continue to build confidence using course material, past papers, marking schemes and homework tasks where appropriate. I think it is important to bring the syllabus topics together and show how they are all related to each other, not separate topics.

I like to stress that I am not a teacher and as such I am available to answer questions / explain concepts any time of day by most means (email/text/WhatsApp/phone) if required.
