Online Maths and Physics Tuition

Hello,
My name is Ken (formally called Zhikai), a second year medical student at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and I am available for some part time tutoring, primarily in the sciences and maths.

I am academically talented, ranking first in the year in Cambridge in my first year medical sciences exams. I also achieved all 9s in my GCSEs and ranked amongst the top of the year in my A level subjects (triple science and maths) at a very competitive grammar school. I managed to achieve all 5 offers, from Cambridge, Imperial, Edinburgh, and Queen Mary’s for medicine, and also from St Georges for Biomedical sciences. I have achieved numerous gold awards in biology, chemistry, physics and maths challenges, and achieved the 17th highest score nationally on round 1 of the Chemistry Olympiad in 2021.

I believe that my strong academic ability and knowledge can help inspire and develop younger minds, and also my experience in how to apply to top universities will be greatly useful.

I very much look forward to working with you.

Tutoring Experience

I have hundreds of hours of experience teaching different aspects ranging from 11+ preparation to GCSE and A level maths and science, as well as in both medical school admissions exams, the UCAT and the BMAT

Tutoring Approach

I will ascertain the current aptitude of the student in the subject through discussing core concepts, assessing both depth of knowledge and understanding, in the first meeting. It is my intention to find out what the student wishes/is required to achieve, and plan my lessons around this.

In subsequent lessons, there will be the content delivery and note taking typical of lessons, but I believe firmly in achieving full understanding of a topic, rather than simply rote learning. Therefore after teaching a topic, I will try and prompt the student's thinking by giving questions requiring application of concepts to real world problems. This could involve unfamiliar contexts and getting the student used to thinking outside of their comfort zone, which in my experience, helps improve both understanding and resilience in the subject.

Every few lessons, I will let the student try some synoptic questions and review the lesson plan in light of their progress, so they get the most out of every lesson.
