William

I am currently a Maths teacher with 7 years of experience who works with year 7 - 13 on a daily basis.
I have a degree in Maths and a PGCE in secondary Mathematics from Newcastle University.
I have taught in a number of schools, working with hundreds of students both as a class teacher and on an individual support basis. I am strong as a tutor in both challenging students with problem solving and harder problems to help them achieve higher grades and also proficient in supporting students with Maths anxiety to achieve their potential and help them develop a passion for Maths. I am very friendly, supportive and professional when working with students, making sure that they achieve their fullest potential.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a classroom teacher for 7 years and have also I tutored a vast number of students at all levels. I have worked with hundreds of students of different ability levels, developing different techniques to scaffold questions and support students in the best way possible. I have taught Key stage 3, GCSE and A-level maths for years and have a strong knowledge of how it applies to real life and links to other subjects in the school curriculum. I have prepared a large number of professional lesson power-points and have a number of resources to aid in teaching students.

As your tutor you will have access to top of the range resources and a subject specialist.

Tutoring Approach

Firstly I would identify any areas that they are particularly weak in. This would be through asking them where they struggle or presenting them with questions which we would then discuss.
I would then discuss with them the concepts behind the methods required to the tutee but more than anything I would help them to learn the methods required to solve the questions in front of them.
In any mathematics course it is apparent that each year they ask very similar questions on exams, with patterns emerging for particular types of questions and as such I believe that by both explaining the theory and ensuring the development of the methods in the tutee they can aim for 100% on every single exam they take. For some students, the context behind a topic can be massively important in ensuring their engagement and success. As a previous careers representative I am perfectly positioned to link this into a session should a student struggle to access a topic.
In my tutor sessions I am kind, supportive, thorough and very friendly. I will always build students up mathematically, doing everything in my power to help them succeed
