Will

I am a former teacher of Geography/Geology at MPW Kensington, now completing a PhD at Imperial College London and tutoring privately throughout weekdays and weekends. I have tutored over 5000 hours at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level, and have absolutely loved helping my tutees fulfil their potential. I endeavour to make all lessons engaging and enjoyable, and was recently awarded an Associate Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy in recognition of my prior teaching achievements.

Alongside my own tuition services, I am the founder and director of a private tuition agency based in Kensington. I have become an experienced education consultant through this role, and bring these skills/experiences to my own tuition when motivating, teaching and advising my tutees.

I am available throughout the year for tuition in Geography, Geology, Personal Statement development and the Extended Project Qualification, and have experience with all exam boards (including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, Educas, CIE and Pre-U in these subjects). I also offer mock interviews and consultation on university selection to prospective university students upon request.

Tutoring Experience

  • Private Geology and Geography tutoring at A-level, GCSE and pre-GCSE for 100+ different students throughout my degree and beyond, with my students consistently surpassing their initial predicted grades by one or more levels.

  • Tutored 20+ university students for Geology undergraduate exams, courseworks and resits.

  • Teaching assistant for 1st and 2nd year Geology undergraduate classes at Imperial College London.

Tutoring Approach

I first have a conversation with the student about their requirements from the tuition. If a long term arrangement is being sought, then we first assess targets, strengths and weaknesses to create a long term
plan. This plan will be tailored to the student's personality and targets in order to maximise their benefits and enjoyment of the sessions. Once we have created a plan, I like to get stuck in to the work to make the improvements as effectively and quickly as possible. I have a major emphasis on exam technique in all my subjects, as it is working the mark scheme that is key to seeing those improvements in grades.

Alternatively, if more urgent work is required for coursework deadlines or imminent exams, then we will get straight to work, prioritising the most urgent areas before working through systematically.

I am available for face-face tutoring in London, and am also experienced at delivering online tuition via skype to Geology and Geography students from all across the UK.

As a young tutor who has recently also completed my school and university exams, I am a relatable character to my tutees and often make a big effort to form a good bond with the student so we can feel like we're in it together.
