I live in Epping and work in London and am a former journalist. I retrained as a teacher 15 years ago. I have tutored many students in both Politics and History.
I have taught History and Politics for the past 15 years. I have taught a range of exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA and OCR. I specialise in Russian history but have also taught many other topics, including China, India, Italy, the Cold War, post-war Britain, Superpower relations and International Relations. I have been Head of Politics for 8 years and specialise in British and American Politics, although I have also taught Global Politics. I am also an Edexcel examiner in American politics.
I think that tutoring is about developing a vibrant working relationship between the student and tutor; I expect the student to have clear learning outcomes and to want to spend at least an hour a week with me expanding their knowledge and focusing on key skills, using the time as an opportunity to be honest about what they want to focus on. I provide lots of notes and reading material and think the best style of tutoring is to ensure that the student is getting something different from their normal lessons from the tuition sessions.
