Private Maths Tutor in Stourbridge

Experienced Maths teacher and former Head of Department Mathematics. 100% success rate. I only work with a few students a year to ensure I can fully commit to their needs should they want intense revision sessions closer to exams.

Tutoring is highly effective. Everyone I have tutored has passed (with a 4/C and above), usually with a higher then targeted grade.

I am a fully qualified Experienced Mathematics teacher (PGCE,Ma (hons)) who enjoys preparing students to succeed with KS3 and G.C.S.E examinations. I am understanding and patient with all students. I strive to help pupils achieve their goals whether they find the subject demanding, need stretching or simply lack motivation.

Tutoring Experience

I am a full timeworking mathematics teacher at a successful secondary school. I remain in touch with today's curriculum and the demands placed on students. I have been teaching mathematics since 2006, working with 'super top' sets to 'middle' and 'support'. I maintain close links with Heads of Department in Birmingham and Coventry.

I have delivered and designed courses for students; from gifted and talented primary course to GCSE mathematics. The feedback was extremely positive so I am now prepared to tutor G&T primary school students and accept some KS2 students.

I have marked live GCSE and KS2 exam papers for edexcel as an expert marker.

Tutoring Approach

Parents:

We teach our children from birth in each and every interaction. We were their first teachers. I offer two services to help you continue to teach your children maths:

  1. Be a student.
Sit in on their tuition session and then talk and continue to support your child based on the materials covered in the sessions subsequently. It may be a few days later you go through some of the material together.

  2. Continue to be the teacher.
Book yourself as an adult learner and learn how to support your child with their meths education. Learn the techniques and best resources. Each session with me may result in you being able to support each of your children for many more hours. There are so many resources out there you may find 2-3 session are all you need. You can see me as and when you need, I can’t train you to become a maths teacher but I help support you to teach your own children.

Approach:
I endeavour to foster understanding based on goal orientated and outcome based learning. Often pupils suffer in exams due to poor exam technique rather than a lack of mathematical ability or understanding. I think the best way to teach is one to one and feel by tutoring I am able to help individuals in the most effective way, unfortunately we as a society can not afford to conduct our schools in such a manner.

In my opinion the perfect length of time for a tuition session is 40mins, concentration spans start to suffer after that time. Therefore, the prices shown are for 45min sessions.

I often run over and do not rush tutees in or out of the door. I always finish the questions we're working on and I usually set homework. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure students complete home work but at the same time have a work/life balanced as I do not know the exact week to week demands school and home life places on students.

Terms (based on good manners):

Travel to student - time spent during travel is chargeable at a prearranged agreed rate before we agree to exchange contact details.

Conflict of interest: I will ask you where you child attends school to ensure their are no conflicts of interests before we agree to exchange contact details.

Cancellation policy: Once a session has been booked it must be cancelled via a telephone call with at least 24hrs notice or full charge will be applied. In over 18yrs I have only cancelled once.

Lateness policy: If your running late please contact me via telephone to inform me before you are late. If you are late I will do my up-most to accommodate you (usually 10-15mins isn't a problem) but I may not be able to give you the full 45mins. The full charge for the session will apply regardless of how much time is left for us to work together.
