Maths and English Lessons in Bury

I am a qualified teacher with 20 years teaching experience and now run my own tuition company. I have always loved teaching children as I enjoy being creative and get a real buzz out of watching children succeed. I have a current enhanced DBS and up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum and the age related expectations. I offer individual tuition daytime, evenings and weekend and currently have tutees throughout the UK, in Dubai and in Romania.

Tutoring Experience

With teaching experience in both primary and secondary schools and having been a deputy head of languages, I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise which enables me to deliver lessons specifically tailored to the needs of each child. Throughout my career, I have enjoyed working in both independent and state schools in the Greater Manchester area. I have experience of teaching pupils in KS1 and KS2 for Maths and English and have successfully tutored pupils for SATS/ 11+ entrance examinations. In addition, I tutor maths ,English and French to pupils in years 7-9. I have worked with pupils of all abilities and find helping those facing additional learning challenges very rewarding. I strongly believe that to be the best teacher you can be, you need to fully appreciate the position of being a learner, therefore I continually update my personal learning. My work as a tutor has been praised repeatedly by parents often resulting in new referrals.

Tutoring Approach

I am an enthusiastic and engaging private tutor specialising in supporting primary children and preparing pupils for 11+ entrance exams. I take time to build a positive working bond with my tutees in order to identify the best techniques to help your child. I have great patience and adaptability which enables me to work with learners of all abilities - I can inspire the reluctant learner, motivate and encourage those who may be struggling and I can stretch and challenge the more able learner. As an experienced teacher of pupils who have SEN, I have many strategies on hand to try to enable them to access learning. My lessons are tailored to the individual learner and I try to make lessons both fun and challenging. Wherever possible, I create tasks which link to their interests in order to maximise engagement. I look to increase confidence and to push the learner to discovering a new skill as well as strengthening existing skills. There is no feeling better than seeing someone realise they can do something new and then want to learn the next step.
Since COVID hit, I have seen an increase in demand for booster lessons especially in English. Creative writing and grammar are two areas which I have been in demand for as I seem to have a way of helping children to activate their imaginations.
In maths, my quirky techniques for remembering the key calculation methods help my tutees to not only learn but retain maths skills.
