I graduated from Durham university in 2017 with a masters level degree in Physics and then a completed a PhD at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Bangor University and graduated in 2021, giving me a wealth of experience in educational settings and a deep understanding for my subjects. I enjoy all things related to maths, physics, astronomy and music. I have worked in University settings for several years both at Bangor University and Newcastle University as a researcher, between 2021 and 2024. This experience has taught me the importance of having an inquisitive mind to suceed in learning. Between 2024 and 2025, I pursued a PGCE in mathematics, before moving into a tutoring based capacity. During this time I have developed my understanding of pedagogy, teaching practice and learning styles. I am a keen hill walker, astronomer and enjoy playing the piano and organ. Other subjects I would be eager to tutor include:
Astronomy (up to GCSE)
Beginner piano (up to grade 3/4).
During my PhD, I was a tutor for GCSE and A level maths and physics and I received positive feedback from students and parents regarding my approach and support. I helped several students achieve their goals in Maths and Physics qualifications, aiding them to secure places at university. Whilst at Bangor university I had several opportunities to support teaching as a demonstrator in undergraduate workshops and mentoring and training undergraduate students and PhD students.
Between 2024 - 2025, I worked towards a PGCE in mathematucs. For this I was awarded a scholorship and granted a position as an associate member of the institute of mathematics and it's applications. During my time on the PGCE course at York University, I was able to learn many aspects of pedagogy, teaching methods, teaching practice and learning styles. I have been on two school-based teaching placements and I have taught through years 7 to 13. These placements have allowed me to gain first hand experience in delivering the mathematics curriculum and allowed me to familiarise myself with it's different aspects and content. The primarily enjoyed the one-to-one interactions with students. As such, I decided to pursue a tutoring career, focussed on the individual needs of each student.
I always strive to make my lessons a relaxed and productive experience. I focus on the enjoyment for the subject and try to enthuse students to take enjoyment in their learning, building confidence in tackling areas of difficulty. My tutoring approach will concentrate on key concepts and linking these with everyday contexts so that the student is aware of the relevance of what they are learning. I will encourage students to target areas of difficulty by asking key questions and honing in on areas of weekness. This will instil students with confidence in their learning and understanding of the various topics. I wish to make the tutorials a relaxed and productive experienced for the student so that they feel comfortable in asking questions and learn through interactive discussion.
