Tommy

Hi, my name is Tommy and I am a recent Physics graduate from the University of Leeds. I have A-levels in Math's, Physics and Geography and I used to teach science up to GCSE at a secondary school in South London.
I am friendly and chatty, as well as being patient and understanding. I wasn't always the top of the class at school or university, so I understand what it is like to struggle with a subject, and that patience, persistence and hard work are key to learning.

Tutoring Experience

I used to work at a school in South London teaching science up to GCSE.
I have also been providing informal tutoring for friends and family, both in person and via Zoom for three years now. I have helped tutor GCSE Science, GCSE Math's and A-level Physics. In my final year of university study, I participated in the PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) scheme, helping first year Physics students with their coursework and examination revision. During my year in industry working at Airbus UK I took part in a tutoring scheme called 'number partners' in which I went to local schools with other colleagues to help struggling students with their mathematics.

Tutoring Approach

I mostly tutor through a working based approach, helping my tutees with problems they have been set by teachers or by myself. I feel that working through problems and rectifying mistakes is the best way to learn. However, I am flexible and can take a more theoretical approach, teaching a student the technique and theory before moving on to problems and questions. I also believe in a visual learning approach, using practical and visual techniques, where possible, to aid understanding.
