I am a full-time online tutor and former mathematics teacher with a passion for helping students to enjoy the subject.
I have five years of classroom teaching experience, including three teaching mathematics in a top-performing IB international school in Tokyo. I am experienced in helping students with the application process for STEM subjects at UK universities, including with entrance exams such as STEP, MAT, TMUA, ENGAA, etc.
I hold an MA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a PGCE from the University of Sussex.
In my time as a classroom teacher, I have seen students that receive tutoring make large improvements in their academic performance. A tutor is able to provide a space for the student to develop confidence for the subject and ask questions more easily than in class. The most important job of a tutor however is to identify exactly where the student has gaps in their knowledge and focus time on the content that the student finds more difficult.
I plan my tutoring sessions to take advantage of the 1-on-1 nature of the learning environment and to complement their schooling. I also understand the importance of being able to adapt to the needs of the student by following lines of inquiry as they organically arise.
