Hi, my name is Tom! I am a qualified Psychotherapist (reg no. 404295) and a part-time private tutor helping UK students. I have over 3 years of experience working with adults and children in both primary and secondary education. I have a Business & Management BA (Hons) degree and a Masters in Counselling & Psychotherapy. Before tutoring, I worked in two universities in their Law & Business Schools respectively. I live in Newcastle, own a 6 month old puppy, and am passionate about helping people achieve their potential.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience working one-to-one with students in SEMH (Social & Emotional Mental Health) schools and now work with students in this mode online, as I find this method works well with particularly anxious/ shy students. Not only have I taught Business related topics, but I have taught English as a Foreign Language and hold a TEFL Graduate qualification. Making me suitable to tutor people from all backgrounds with varying abilities.

I typically tutor 10 to 15 students in an academic year. My main focus is adding value, and I aim to improve all my students by at least one grade or more. I teach all the major exam boards (Edexcel, AQA, OCR ) and have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS on the update service.

Tutoring Approach

I will always start sessions by discussing any individual requirements and areas of the syllabus they would like to focus on. Students may ask to recap concepts and theories that aren’t fully understood, however in my experience most require help with exam technique, and how to translate their knowledge into a high grade answer. In our sessions I will help with essay structure, illustrate how to use higher order analytical and evaluation skills, and crucially, how to apply an answer to information in a case study, or how to bring in real world examples.

I will work to closely match my students learning style, helping them feel comfortable and relaxed to bring out their best. I also use creative approaches to learning along with high standards of exam practice to help prepare for any upcoming assessments.

With my degree in Business & Management and Masters in Counselling & Psychotherapy, as well as a passion for engaging people in Business & Psychology, my outlook and experiences make learning simple, easy and effective!
