I am a kind and patient tutor and love sharing my passion for learning with my students. As a qualified teacher and experienced tutor I am proud of my ability to match my teaching to the learning needs of my students, building on their skills and strengths to show them how they can succeed.

During my time in schools I have taught biology, chemistry and physics and maths to GCSE and as a tutor I have helped young people succeed in these subjects and achieve the grades they deserve.
Many of my tutees have worked with me from Year 8 and Year 9 and one of my key strengths is in helping these young people build up the confidence and motivation they need to really succeed as they move towards years 10 and 11.

My desire to support young people regardless of their ability or learning needs has inevitably led me away from the classroom and over the last two years I have worked as an assistant educational psychologist and, more recently, as a mental health practitioner in schools whilst still tutoring some evenings. This has developed my knowledge of learning interventions to support all young people as well as giving me the skills to help young people with a whole variety of emotional needs.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught and tutored science and maths at Key Stage 3 and 4 in schools across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. I have also tutored maths to several year 6 students to help them build up their skills ready for secondary school.

I have a track record for helping young people improve their grades especially those struggling with motivation or who find it difficult to access mainstream school learning. As such, I have had students who have come to me in Year 8 progressively move up sets and eventually acheive grades 8 and 9 at GCSE.

Tutoring Approach

I pride myself on my patient and caring attitude and on not having a one size fits all approach to learning. I believe in working alongside my students to help them address their misconceptions and boost their understanding then reinforcing this through overlearning and careful questionning. This is further supported through written work which can be set as homework depending on the wishes of the parent and child.

My degrees in physics and psychology mean I have both a strong knowledge base but also a fantastic understanding of how young people learn and how this changes with age. As such, I can tailor my learning materials to meet the needs of your young person so that feel supported to succeed.

I provide both verbal and written feedback after every session.

I can offer tutoring on Monday or Tuesday evenings from 6pm.
