Private Maths Tuition in Rushden

I am a seasoned classroom practitioner with over 14 years’ experience gained in the development and implementation of secondary education curricula in the field of mathematics spanning across Key Stages 3 to 5. As an educationalist I am well versed in the continuous implementation of reform curricula driven by political change. Currently, as a lead practitioner within my school, I am responsible for implementing changes to the curriculum by working closely with colleagues and the Edexcel Board. Besides teaching I also offer private tuition after school and during weekends.
Prior to teaching I have worked as a project manager gaining over 17 years’ experience in the development and management of projects and programmes most notably in the fields of Environment and Energy. This helped me develop into a strategic thinker and prove my ability to evaluate complex issues and make effective decisions.

Tutoring Experience

Following my 17 year long career in the industrial and public sectors I diversified into secondary education where I have gained considerable experience in teaching the subject of mathematics for the last 14 years. The schools I have worked at to date have provided me with excellent opportunities to develop and broaden my classroom skills by teaching students of significant ethnic minorities, including pupils with special needs, premium pupils as well as the most able. I am currently employed by the Greater Peterborough University Technical College as a lead Practitioner of mathematics. I am also an Examiner with Edexcel for GCE regular and further mathematics modules.
My curriculum experience covers the age range and ability breadth for, KS3, KS4 and KS5. I firmly believe that mathematics is an integral part of everyday life, and as a teacher I constantly fight against the perception that the subject is dull, boring and difficult. My overriding priority has been to present mathematics as an exciting, practical and challenging subject to all pupils. Over the past 14 years I have taught both linear and modular courses by developing and delivering suitably tiered schemes of work for all key stages that are consistent with requirements of the Edexcel, OCR and AQA examining boards. At A-level I teach Mechanics, Statistics, and the modules of Core mathematics. Similarly, in Further Maths I teach Decision as well as the Core modules. I support the less able and stretch the gifted and talented both in lessons and in after school sessions. I set targets for individual pupils and monitor progress regularly.
On the pastoral side, I tutor a Form Tutor. I work closely with the Head of House and student support services in identifying and dealing with sensitive issues affecting the welfare of students and tutees. I communicate any concerns with colleagues and parents promptly and formally via Tutor reports and at meetings during academic-tutorial days. As a tutor I believe that I play a vital role in maintaining good discipline and responsible attitude from pupils in each year.
My work ethos is based on developing and maintaining positive professional relationships both with my students and with my colleagues. I believe in fostering a spirit of collaboration and togetherness whereby as a member of a professional team I feel confident of working towards a set of common aims whilst being able to offer my own personal skills and qualities. I consider myself to be fair, I teach with a sense of humour and strive to deliver an effective curriculum. Results for my groups are consistently high and my students enjoy coming to my lessons. I am critically reflective and continuously aim to become a successful educationalist.

Tutoring Approach

I have tutored successfully many students over the past 14 years whether in GCSE, GCE and Further Mathematics both short and long term. I work intensively with my tutees, and closely with their parents and where possible their school teachers in identifying and overcoming barriers in the understanding and application of challenging concepts thus building confidence towards ongoing learning in the classroom and ultimately achieving their full potential in the exams. I listen, I am supportive and strive to enable my tutees to become independent learners who apply their subject knowledge with confidence.
