Private Maths Tutor in Swanley

I graduated from Loughborough University in 2007 with a BSc in Mathematics with Management Sciences and gained an Upper Second Class degree. I chose to study Maths at University because I developed a love for the subject during the A Level course. I particularly enjoyed the challenges met in Calculus and Statistics and found it hugely satisfying and rewarding when I answered questions correctly. In September 2007, I was employed by a high achieving independent boarding school in Worcestershire as a full time Teacher of Mathematics and the school put me through the GTP programme with the University of Wolverhampton. On completion of the programme in July 2008, I was awarded QTS. I have since spent the summer travelling and relocated to South London where I was supply teaching part time and pursuing my passion for horses by training and competing horses for clients. In September 2009, I joined Orpington College as a Mathematics Lecturer where I focus on teaching GCSE retakes and the AS/A Level Courses.

Tutoring Experience

Over ten years of experience in teaching at independent schools, tutoring one to one and delivering revision courses. My experience is for years 7-13 including GCSE, iGCSE and A Level.

Tutoring Approach

I pride myself in taking a sincere and supportive approach to my teaching. I take my time to break down information and ensure that the learner keeps up with the pace of progression. I enjoy building a trusting relationship with my pupils and take an interest in what they want to achieve and what their goals are. My lessons are always thoroughly planned with back-up work ready should the planned work be completed early. I believe that any learner needs a short break after thirty minutes and I will therefore vary the resources and media used in my teaching so that a full hour of one-to-one does not feel intense or overwhelming. Maths is often criticised for being boring and irrelevant and so a teacher that is dynamic, engaging and has a number of resources at their fingertips is essential. I aspire to being this type of teacher.
