I thoroughly enjoy working with young people, helping them to become the best version of themselves they can be. For me, teaching is all about the individual, not school league tables or Ofsted results, but about the people in front of me. Helping young people grow in confidence, realising making mistakes is ok, as long as we learn from them, building courage to ask questions and seeing their self-esteem blossom as they make progress is so rewarding and the reason why I went into teaching. I have very high expectations of myself and, similarly, my students. It's a team effort and I do everything within my capabilities to help my students succeed.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 18 years teaching experience, teaching across all year groups (Y7-11) and all abilities. My results speak for themselves, with the majority of my students making at least the expected level of progress and many achieving over a grade higher than predicted.
I also have experience teaching in a primary school where I was a class teacher for a mixed Y5/6 class.
I have been a Head of House/Year for 17 years, so understand the importance of the pastoral needs of young people and the impact this can have on learning and progress. This is particularly important with the rise in mental health conditions in young people.
I have provided private tutoring for the children of friends and colleagues for over 15 years but, with so many young people's education suffering due to the covid pandemic, I thought I would reach out to more young people and offer my services further afield.

Tutoring Approach

I acknowledge that students learn in different ways and one size does not fit all. However, my general approach is very much based on mastery. It's important for students to have a solid foundation and understanding before moving on. It's vital that skills are not only introduced but the student has time to consolidate this skill and apply it in a variety of contexts. Furthermore, it's imperative that skills are revisited frequently to ensure they are not forgotten and kept fresh in their minds.
I look at breaking down skills and applying logically. Working through model answers, including students in the process by way of questioning to check understanding, is a vital part of the learning process.
