With eighteen years' experience as a teacher and fourteen years' tutoring experience, I enjoy working with children. I also have two children of my own. I live in Southampton and am experienced at tutoring online and in person.

Tutoring Experience

Having worked in a range of schools, I spent nearly ten years working in two local independent preparatory schools, with a strong emphasis on high academic achievement in maths and English as well as preparing children for 11+, SATs and common entrance exams. I have a very good track record for helping children to achieve excellent results. Having worked as Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) I am experienced at assessing and identifying children's needs in order either to provide a high standard of help to children who are behind or to further challenge children who are gifted or talented. I have taught every subject to children aged 3-11 and have very good curriculum and subject knowledge as well as experience and training in the latest version of the National Curriculum. I form excellent relationships with children, who make very good progress, and I communicate well with parents and carers. I also liaise well with outside agencies such as educational psychologists and occupational therapists.

Tutoring Approach

A flexible tutor, I have a range of timeslots available. Once a parent makes contact with me, I promptly email them a copy of my full CV, recent DBS form (Disclosure & Barring Service- previously CRB or Criminal Records Bureau), teaching certificates and two references. I would look to arrange an initial 60 minute assessment, free of charge. During this time, the tutee and parents have the opportunity to get a feel for the service provided, and an individual education plan will begin to be drawn up which sets targets to be reached in line with curriculum levels or exam requirements as appropriate, and in collaboration with the child and parents involved. There is no obligation to continue with the tutoring if you are unhappy as it is important that you find the right tutor for you. I like to keep parents closely informed, so that you are aware of the progress being made at each session. I am also happy to pass you paperwork to go to your child's teacher, detailing the targets being worked on and progress being made. Equally I am happy to work on targets as requested by the school or to help children with school homework if this is something you require. Parents are welcome either to 'sit in' on tutoring sessions or to leave children in my care.
