I am a B.Ed qualified primary school teacher. I have ben tutoring for over ten years. I have a good understanding of the needs of primary age children and am able to help children with learning difficulties, those who are struggling and those who are keen to achieve.
I have 23 years teaching experience. I have worked in primary schools in Birmingham, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. I have also worked with the home teaching service that provides teaching for pupils who are unable to attend school due to illness.
I like to meet prospective parents and children and mutually decide the needs of a child. I do an informal assesment and ask informal questions. This also allows pupils and there carers to ask any questions they may wish to ask. From my assessment and informal discussion, I am able to identify the needs of the child and identify strenghts and weeknesses.
I follow the skills outlined in the National Curiculum and in the National Numeracy and Literacy strategies. I explain the work to the child, we go through some examples and then allow the child to do some of their own. Homework is set and I do have an expectation for work to be completed. I always mark work and give continuous fedback.
