Hello, I'm Steven, I am a fully qualified and highly experienced professional teacher and improving grades is my focus! I have MSc and BSc university degrees. I mark real GCSE exam papers for the biggest exam board in the country - I know how students can improve and get more marks.

PLEASE READ:
As it is now very close to the start of the GCSE exams which begin in mid May, students who are in year 11 are no longer able to join my small group classes. However, if your son or daughter is in year 10 or in year 9 they are very welcome to join and I’m sure the classes will be a great help to them - please message me to have a chat about it.

I concentrate all my time, skills and enthusiasm on GCSE Science and Maths only (no KS3, no A level) so that I can provide my GCSE students with the very best possible help!

I mark 700+ real GCSE exam papers for the biggest UK exam board each summer. I use what I learn (common errors, misconceptions, poor exam technique, poor scientific vocab) to help my student improve their grades !

I offer the following:

£18 small group class lessons 1 hour online (highly effective & great value).

£100 one-to-one 1 hour online lessons.

£150 one-to-one at your home (time suitable to us both) 1 hour lesson + travel time pro rata - here I've assumed 30 minutes as an example.

Information on my small group 1 hour Skype classes:

Suitable for all year 9, 10 and 11 GCSE students studying with the major exam boards.

Science - these science lessons are excellent for triple (also known as separate science) students. Combined science students will find them very useful but will learn some content they are not required to learn - this will be identified to them during the lessons.

Maths - the group covers foundation and higher content. Higher students will find them excellent help, foundation students will find them very useful but will learn some content they are not required to learn - this will be identified to them during the lessons.

Each lesson is self contained – join any time.

Tutoring Experience

I mark real GCSE exam papers for the UK's biggest exam board so I know what the examiners are looking for in students answers - because I am one ! I use that critical knowledge to help my students.

I have been deputy head of science and head of A level Physics.

I have taught in several different schools and across all secondary material, from KS3 through GCSE up to and including A level.

I am an experienced tutor who has helped many students make significant progress and improve their grades.

I am very familiar with the AQA, Edexcel, Edexcel IGCSE, Cambridge IGCSE, and OCR exam board specifications (but I do not teach WJEC as I'm not familiar with WJEC).

Tutoring Approach

I'm patient, honest and helpful and I believe that Science and Maths are fun, and learning them should be engaging and interesting too. When tutoring, I seek to identify the weaknesses of my students and then help them to improve whilst enjoying the process of learning.

Being a professional teacher means that I have a deep understanding of:
* The subject.
* Exactly what needs to be learnt for your exam and what does not (the specification/curriculum).
* Different teaching and learning techniques to help young people learn.

Many tutors are not qualified teachers and cannot provide ALL of the above - there is a big difference between understanding the subject and being able to teach it effectively...

*1 - these classes are allowed to grow in size at 2 points during the year:
From July and across the summer holidays so that when we restart in September after the summer holiday students who are not committed drop out in the first weeks of classes and classes are still a reasonable size. From March onwards so that when all the year 11's stop attending in mid June (because they have finished their real GCSE exams) the classes will still be a reasonable size.
