Following my A levels I studied chemical engineering at Sheffield university and subsequently worked for Shell and ICI in the petrochemical industry. I returned to full time study to complete a P.G.C.E at York university and have since then been a Science teacher at an 11-16 comprehensive school in Scarborough. My spare time at the moment seems to be taken up with training a border terrier puppy and riding my triumph motorcycle.
I am an experienced science teacher in the Scarborough area. I have taught Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Combined science to G.C.S.E level including the recent curriculum changes such as the Trilogy courses. In the last 10 years I have had responsibility for the Chemistry curriculum and also acted as Head of Lower School science.
I have recently begun to tutor lower sixth A level chemistry or as it was called AS level.
Many of the problems that hinder progress in G.C.S.E science courses stem from misunderstandings in earlier work. These often require time and discussion to unpick and rectify. This time is often unavailable to the classroom teacher so I believe tutoring should fulfill this need by acting as a weekly clinic to recap and help explain the work the student is presently covering so they can make the most of each lesson at school. The tutoring will also include exam question practice especially for extended answers and guidance to help make the most of the chemistry and physics coursework that students often find challenging.
