I have run my own private tuition business for 4 years now since becoming self-employed full-time as a private tutor following my work as an A-level lecturer at a public school/sixth form.
I also work closely with the major exam boards, having done so for over 6 years now. I recently worked as part of the restructuring of the syllabus for A-level Maths and Further Maths and produced content for several new edition exam board textbooks.
I am a 29 year-old, dedicated, hard-working individual who takes great pride in all that I do, especially my work. I have always been a studious and industrious type, and I seek to nurture this aspect in others.
Aside from absolutely anything mathematical (!) I myself have a range of interests, ranging from music (I play the piano, flute, sax, cello and guitar) where I perform for weddings and other special occasions, to sports (badminton and gymnastics) which I play in competition leagues for various clubs, when I have the time to make such commitments.
A-level/Degree Maths/Physics tutor. I have a total of 11 years tutoring experience in both these subject areas.
I took a joint honours degree in Maths and Music from Leeds University and have specialised my tutoring since at the KS5 (AS/A2) level (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR-MEI exam boards) and for Oxbridge MAT and PAT, C-SAT/STEP and UKMT, and the UKCAT and BMAT for those students applying to Medicine and Dentistry programmes. I provide some teaching at Leeds University for module specific areas of undergraduate Mathematics programmes.
I also work as both a Principal Examiner and Exam Moderator for a board, where I both write and mark exam questions for AS and A2 Maths and Further Maths exams. I am a specialist in Mechanics.
I have a DipABRSM awarded for Piano Performance and another for Flute Performance as well as ABRSM grade 8 Theory and have taught both performance (on both these instruments) and theory for ABRSM exams.
I am a very encouraging teacher and like to create a fun, 'two-way' environment in which to teach - students learn most effectively in a positive, convivial environment after all! I have an excellent record of results from students (a 100% pass rate) and have always maintained all my students year after year until their studies are complete. I like to test my students continually by having them 'teach' me how to answer exam questions/explain every step, as opposed to simply just writing it down casually. This assessment technique allows me to ensure that their understanding is thoroughly correct and it solidifies their memory and inspires confidence in their ability. Statistically, if an individual teaches something to someone else, they are around 5 times more likely to remember it!
