Personal Description:
I am 41 year old, happily married, proud father of two young children. I have a PGCE and a Masters as well as a Bachelors Degree in English and have taught English and Film in sixth forms for seventeen years. I have experience of teaching English from basic skills to A Level but would happily teach undergraduates and help with post graduate research. Indeed, my pupils have aged from seven to those in their seventies. I specialise in GCSE and A Level English Language & Literature teaching and have twelve years of examining experience with AQA and WJEC boards, including seven years of leading exam teams and teaching them how to examine. It is, therefore, fair to say that I have a good grasp of what examiners are looking for and can ensure exam success. I also have management experience (eleven years) and have led AS/A Level teachers/courses in English Language and English Language & Literature. Finally, I have 10 years of pastoral experience as a personal tutor too. As well as teaching, I help to manage all the A Level departments of a local college where I am also the Lead Coach, helping other teachers to improve their skills. I mentor trainee teachers at Manchester Metropolitan University too. Please note I have a CRB check from 2012.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught on the following courses : English Language AS/A2, English Literature AS/A2, English Language & Literature AS/A2, International Baccalaureate English, Access English, A Level General Studies, GCSE English, Key and Basic Skills English, AS/A2 Film Studies and Drumming and Creative Writing Enrichment. My last CRB check was in September 2012
Tutoring Approach:
I love my job so whatever level I teach, I always get a buzz from seeing a student progress, be it with their spelling, grammar or Shakespeare. I am patient, enthusiastic, passionate and very knowledgeable about my subjects and I feel I excel at one to one tuition. I believe in a student led approach as every student is different and I build sessions around what you require in a collaborative fashion. I am happy to help with coursework, dissertations or deliver more exam focused sessions. No matter what your aspirations are in English, I will give you the confidence to achieve them at your own pace.

We're so pleased that you agreed to tutor Fergus. He's realising that he can do English and his confidence is growing. He actually enjoys his lessons with you, which can't be said for English at school! Fingers crossed for his exam next month.
Thank you for your hard work.
