Private Maths Tuition in Bournemouth

Only slot available is Thursday 4 - 5pm virtually

Hi I'm Sophie, I'm a fully qualified maths teacher living in Winton. I taught for 3 years in a state school before moving to the private sector, where I have been for 7 years. I currently have tutoring space for one pupil.

With the uncertainty brought by COVID, I have seen from my own pupils how their confidence has been knocked. I am happy to tutor students for a short series of sessions if they need preparing for a specific assessment or over a longer period if they need continued support.

I have A Levels in maths, biology and geography. My degree is a BA(Hons) in Economics and Law from University of Exeter. I also have a full law degree, accredited by the College of Law. I planned to become a solicitor and found that life behind a desk was not for me, so I became a teacher instead. I genuinely love my job and find working with teenagers endlessly entertaining.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching maths for ten years and I have taught maths at all ability levels. I have previously taught the GCSE syllabus and I now teach IGCSE and A Level maths. I have taught both the Edexcel and OCR MEI A Level syllabus.

At GCSE/IGCSE I have taught pupils across the whole ability range- from ones who are hoping just to pass, to ones aiming for 100%. At A Level, I have taught many pupils who have gone onto Oxbridge or to study medicine.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is the same as my approach to to teaching, every pupil is an individual with their own strengths and weaknesses and its the teacher's job to tap into these strengths to help them overcome their barriers. As a teacher, I have found some tutors simply do the work for the child but a great tutor simply guides and gives hints to help the pupil onto the right path but with the emphasis on the pupil doing the work.
