This is how 2 referees rated Sophie:
"Sophie is an amazing tutor. My son was a very reluctant learner and school-attender and he has been completely turned around by Sophie’s patience and hard-work. She makes his learning really fun and tailored to his interests. He always comes away beaming and cried recently when we missed a session at half-term! I thoroughly recommend her to anyone looking for Maths and English help for their children. She will make a significant and lasting difference straight away, and give your child’s learning the focus and attention it needs." Clare, parent.
"Our daughter used to struggle with maths at school but after just a few months of Sophie's patient guidance in a personal environment, she jumped two sets and won Star of the Week for her renewed confidence and ability. She loves her weekly sessions with Sophie, whether English or Maths." Jeremy, parent.
"Since starting with Sophie, my Daughter's confidence in both maths and literacy has improved greatly. Sophie has been a very positive, encouraging and supportive teacher enabling my Daughter to learn at her own pace whilst building upon her skills to improve her understanding. I would highly recommend Sophie to anyone considering a tutor as her approach has been the nurturing and reassuring influence my Daughter has needed to grow her confidence and ability." Sharon, parent.
I am an enthusiastic, reliable and hard working qualified teacher, fully committed to unleashing the potential of pupils in positive and safe surroundings. I have the skills necessary to help children increase their confidence and to make their learning fun and enjoyable, resulting in their rapid and sustainable progress. I`m trained and experienced in teaching KS1 and KS2, English and Reading, Maths, and all other subjects. I am very proficient and have wide experience of teaching children, including those who do not have English as a first language, those with additional educational needs and gifted/talented pupils.
My home is centrally located, so benefits from being close to Brighton train station, having numerous bus links, and also has parking bays on the same street. A teaching `workstation` is set up in a spacious, clean and quiet living room, where all of my wonderful resources are easily at hand.
Please contact me to request any additional information or to discuss arranging an initial meeting / trial lesson. Thank you.
I undertook my teacher training in London, where my school placements were located in Hackney and Tottenham. I moved to Brighton after qualifying in 2011, where I taught as a supply teacher for a year in various schools around Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. I currently work at a Junior School in Hove, where I run a number of intervention classes. I have been successfully tutoring privately for a couple of years and have a number of regular students who have shown marked progression since having lessons with me - in attainment, confidence and enthusiasm for the subject they were once struggling with.
I use a positive approach with pupils, striving to build up children's confidence and enable them to see that learning can be fun, enjoyable and rewarding. I carefully tailor work to each child's requirements and adapt my style of tutoring to fit in with each individual pupil. I use many practical resources along with discussion and modelling examples, so as to really solidify a true and deep understanding. Only when a child really 'gets it', will we move on to more formal written work. My positive reinforcement really encourages pupils and I am able to provide a safe working environment where it's OK to make mistakes.
