In 2008 I completed a BA Honours Degree in English Language and English Literature. After a successful management career at Jones Bootmaker, (The footwear retailer) I decided on a new challenge by the way of returning to education. During the three years of my degree, I studied full time in order to pursue my goal of working in Education. Since 2001, I have been working for the retailer Jones Bootmaker as a Manager. When I started my degree, I continue my position in a part-time capacity. As a manager, I have built up a wealth of attributes that define my character well. I am a motivated, organised, and energetic person, and use these skills to get the most out of my team and myself. The qualities I have to support my application include dedication, patience, enthusiasm, and good communication skills.
I am a good communicator, with sound knowledge and comprehension of English and Mathematics for secondary pupils, (in February 2009, I refreshed my Maths skills through completion of my Maths equivalency test and numeracy skills with Learn Direct). I have had the opportunity to complete a placement on the Student Associate Scheme. Overall, the scheme has provided an enjoyable, yet challenging understanding, of day-to-day duties in a school. In particular, working with children who have been removed from class and placed in the Learning Support Unit, it was a very rewarding experience. I had the chance to teach a complete lessons solo, with the aid of a lesson plan; this gave me first hand practice of the English curriculum and lesson planning. I directed a small work group in Drama, helped with yr 10 coursework drafts on a one to one basis and group basis. For the last 10years I have tutored children from year 6-12 and last year successfully aided a failing year 11 pupil to pass her English Language and Literature GCSE.
I aim to help every student achieve their full potential by giving them encouragement, understanding and personalised attention. I will endeavour to raise their aspiration and achievement levels by instilling them with enthusiasm for the subject, self-confidence, motivation and direction. I will travel to the tutees home or local library to work with them on their homework, class projects and exam revision, working through their current syllabus and additional workbooks. I will examine their schoolwork, and talk to the pupil and parents to identify their strengths and weakness
