I am an enthusiastic and creative teacher with almost 20 years teaching experience. I currently offer primary tuition in Maths and English up to year 6. I have recently taken a career break to start a family, which has allowed me the time to focus solely on private tutoring. I moved to Bournemouth eight years ago and love living by the sea. In my spare time as a practising artist, I enjoy painting , yoga and paddle boarding as well as running (with our little dog Scooby and son, Rocco!).I find that these activities are particularly helpful in calming the mind and body after a busy day, and help me to maintain a calm and positive approach in my teaching.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught in a range of different schools and locations across the UK and abroad. I have taught all age ranges within the primary curriculum from Reception up to Year 6. My broad teaching experience has greatly enhanced my teaching methods, providing me with the skills to make each learning experience exciting and memorable for the children I teach. I maintain a flexible but dedicated approach towards tailoring my lessons to meet the individual needs of learners. This ensures that I provide the necessary support to help each child reach their potential. I have worked part-time as a private tutor for 14 years, supporting students to reach the required standards, develop confidence in ability, and providing challenges to stretch more able students. I take pride in my role as an inspirational tutor within this process.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that the key to successful tutoring begins with a sound understanding of the requirements of the child and parent/guardian. Before tutoring commences, I will arrange a short, informal meeting (free & in person at your home), to discuss requirements and meet the tutee. Once this is established and the current levels of attainment are clear, specific and achievable targets for learning can be put in place. The level of trust and respect between tutor and tutee is crucial to success, so I value time taken to build on such relationships. This also gives insights to an individual'’s learning style and particular needs, which I can then use to adapt my future planning. Feedback is important to track the progress of the tutee, as is positive reinforcement and encouragement to build self esteem. I feel that it is important to spend time at the end of each session feeding back to parents / guardians about how the lesson went and what was achieved. It is also a useful time to suggest any further activities that can be done between lessons to strengthen concepts/skills and to set homework tasks if required.
