Sarah

I am an experienced teacher of History and Politics at GCSE and A Level for City of London School for Girls. I have a PGCE and a Masters in History Education from UCL.

I aim to provide supportive, productive tutoring session for your child where we build a relationship and raise attainment, so your child achieves the grade they want and deserve.

Since I began teaching all my GCSE and A Level classes have had significant 'value added' meaning that class performance was significantly above target grades. I tutored two of my students one on one outside lessons. One, a GCSE student, went from a grade 2 in her mock to a grade 6 in her exam. Another A Level student went from a D in her mock to a B by the end of the year.

I can teach the following courses:

IGCSE History - the Modern World
AQA GCSE History - Elizabethan England, Germany, Cold War, Migration or Medicine
Edexcel or OCR A Level History - Russia, China, Tudors, American Civil Rights
Edexcel A Level Politics - all modules

Tutoring Experience

I am a teacher of History and Politics at City of London School for Girls. The GCSE grades at our school have been among the highest in the country.

I have taught for 3 years at the independent North Bridge House Canonbury as a History and Politics Teacher. During my time at the school History has become the most popular GCSE option and History and Politics grades have been two of the highest achieving subjects.

I have First Class Honours in History (BA) from the University of Bristol.

I have a PGCE at the Institute of Education, ranked no.1 in the country for teacher training, and a Masters in History Education.

I have worked as a GCSE Examiner for AQA GCSE and Edexcel Politics A Level giving me inside knowledge about how to achieve high marks in exams.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where your child feels they can flourish and progress to the grade that they want.

We will start with an initial consultation where your child and I will discuss strengths and weaknesses, priorities of content and exam questions to cover. I will give your child a retrieval assessment so that areas of development can be targetted and focussed on.

Then I will help your child progress exams by looking at exam questions. We will use mark schemes, model answers and multimedia resources so your child can write an A Grade answer first in collaboration with me, then independently.

Through this method we will recap the content your child needs as well as using my teaching and examining experience to apply the necessary exam technique for a high grade. Throughout the sessions we will also complete retrieval activities for other parts of the course so your child's revision is comprehensive.

I have extensive experience of teaching children with learning difficulties. As a dyspraxic myself I have personal experience of overcoming these difficulties in the classroom and see dyslexia and dyspraxia as no impediment to success.
