Online English Tutoring

I am an experienced, highly qualified English teacher working primarily now as a family coach, supporting families when their children are struggling in school Removed Alongside this I offer English tutoring, primarily to children currently not in school.

Before qualifying as a teacher I gained a Masters degree and worked in educational research and policy.

I teach online during the school day.

Tutoring Experience

I am former fast track teacher, second in department and KS3 specialist. My most recent role gave me responsibility for the achievement of all KS3 pupils in a large, outstanding London comprehensive. This involved managing a programme of one-to-one tuition, developing intervention strategies for any pupils failing to meet their potential and ensuring suitable levels of stretch and challenge for all.

I have a demonstrable track record of enabling ALL pupils to make progress. I also have extensive experience teaching GCSE and A-level, particularly C/D borderline pupils at GCSE and a range of abilities (including A* pupils) at A-level.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is informed by my teaching experience. I can rapidly understand what is preventing pupils from making the leap to the next level and enable them to do so, giving them confidence in their own abilities in the process.

It is common for students to struggle at the beginning of English AS and A-level courses as the leap from GCSE is significant. For these students I focus heavily on improving essay planning and writing skills, teaching them simple strategies to ensure they can communicate their ideas clearly.

At GCSE and A-level I am able to provide room for further discussion of key issues, detailed appraisal of tutees' work and insights into what the examiner is 'really' looking for (I work also as an examiner). I have extensive experience preparing pupils for English exams at the end of KS4 and KS5 and specialise in the AQA and OCR syllabuses.
