As a wife and mother of two, I have balanced my experience and time as a teacher with the support and demands of family life. I have been teaching for 27 years with considerable exam success from 11+, Common Entrance, GCSE and A level. I have taught in a variety of academic institutions including: Independent secondary and preparatory schools, Grammar and comprehensive schools and a tertiary 6th form college. I have held senior leadership positions and I am passionate about teaching that allows my students to grow in confidence and knowledge. On a Personal level, I love sport and the outdoors and as a family we participate in many outdoor activities.
For sixteen years I have tutored students who have required additional help or support to maximise their potential in National exams. For those children wishing to to sit entrance exams to their chosen senior school be that by Common entrance or 11+ exams, I taylor the tuition to suit the child's needs and also the requirements of the school. Exams can vary from school to school and this preparation has proven to be essential if a child is to be successful in a competitive market.I do a great deal of specialist work preparing students for National exams at GCSE and 'A' level. As such I have a detailed understanding of various GCSE and 'A' level specifications. Exam technique is key to success as well as a solid understanding of the facts. As such, part of my tutoring role when I work with my tutees is to make sure they are secure and happy with exam techniques and any gaps in their knowledge is dealt with.
I have a very adaptable and flexible approach depending on each student's circumstances which can change at any stage. Consequently, each tutee is given time and one to one support specific to their requirements and learning style that they have. Whilst setting high, realistic and achievable goals I also give detailed on going feed back and encouragement.I do not believe, 'one style fits all' and as such my approach is very much a mixture of what is required as an end goal coupled with how best to get a child to that 'finishing line'. In so many cases, confidence is a critical factor that stands in the way of success and it is an issue I target from day.
