Online English and Special Needs Tuition

AUGUST 2023: Another bumper year! Well done and huge congrats to my A Levels students who all got A*s, As and Bs and my GCSE students who have made me so proud with a clean sweep of grades 6-9. Your success is my biggest recommendation! Thank you all!

AUGUST 2022: Congratulations to my exam students who all gained grades to be proud of - My A Level cohort got all As and Bs and my GCSE students all 7s and higher! An amazing bunch of learners who have made me so proud :) YOU ARE BRILLIANT!

Thank you for looking at my profile.

Learning should be fun and my teaching encourages independent thought, enquiry and most importantly self confidence. My main subject is English Literature and Language, which I have taught for over 25 years, though I am now studying for a Masters in SEN.

I believe successful education can change lives and every student can succeed with the right support. I encourage students to learn according to their style and to achieve their full potential, whilst building their self confidence and core skills. My previous tutees are happy to recommend me and their exam success is my greatest reference.

I tutor weekdays, evenings, weekends and school holidays. Happy to travel to your home if required, by arrangement and subject to travel time, but currently I am ONLY working via Skype or similar online platforms. Our young people are very used to this method of learning these days! All my tutees have free access to my online learning platform included in their tuition, which enables me to set and monitor assignments, homework and study.

I hold a Diploma in Child and Young Peoples’ Mental Health (distinction), a further diploma in Managing Anxiety (distinction)and a Diploma In Pathological Demand Avoidance (distinction) in addition to my English and teaching qualifications (DTLLS). I am also a qualified Mental Health Fist Aider. My interest in Educational Psychology and the effect of anxiety on attainment motivated me to take further diplomas, in Educational Psychology. I am currently studying for a CBT Diploma.

In addition to subject tuition, I offer a support service to parents and young people who are struggling with homework, organisation, anxiety and studying. I can help you end the “battles” and teach your child self management skills for life. If this is where you need support please say so in your initial enquiry. Thank you.

I can support your child to achieve their potential.

AUG 20th 2021 - I am so proud of all my students - full house for A Level and GCSE passes for English Lit and Language. Well over three quarters achieved 7/8/9s in a year that caused them all so much worry. Superstars every single one ❤️

22/8/20
MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO MY GCSE AND A LEVEL STUDENTS THIS YEAR, 100% pass rate for my English Language, History and Sociology students (and sadly, all but one for English Literature) despite the tough exams and very dubious marking from a couple of boards....you are all brilliant!! The four students who gained 8 and double 9 grades are testimony to their hard work and enthusiasm - superb results - congratulations to you all!

Tutoring Experience

Having taught English and Humanities for many years, I then developed an interest in SEN and became specialist teacher for language and communication. I now teach part time and work part time as an SEN Consultant. I tutor English (Literature and Language) and Sociology to A Level.

I have more than twenty five years experience as an FE teacher, tutor and Department Lead. My last Ofsted observation, in October 2017, judged my teaching outstanding.

Tutoring Approach

I am a creative and effective teacher with experience in secondary and FE settings. I have had equal success with talented students and with students who experience difficulties. My aim is to empower your learner to reach their potential and understand how to gain the marks they need in exams.

My approach fosters motivation and enthusiasm. It must be stressed however; I do expect my tutees to work hard. Quite simply, I won't waste my time or your money and I'm very honest with my clients! I will tutor to the highest possible outcome but tutees have to want to succeed, as I can't be with them in the exam. I look forward to talking further about your learner's needs.

Please note I only accept bookings that are weekly and committed for a full half term. I don’t offer one off lessons ; quite simply this is how I earn my living and I do ask for commitment from my clients of a single half term, plus 48 hours notice of missing a session. That then gives me time to try and fill the space. Thank you for understanding.
