Rupert

Hammersmith Tutor

Having studied at Harrow School I went on to read English at the University of Cambridge (Emmanuel College), attaining my MA. While there I worked on several papers and magazines and also played hockey.

After graduating, I received a scholarship to spend some time at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai.

I am a full time tutor and have been working in the industry for over six years. Most of my clients are long-term and have come through personal recommendations. I'm currently looking to fill spaces during the weekends and the Easter holiday. You can find more about my tutoring work (www.rupertthetutor.com) and references can be supplied.

I'm also a writer, editor, and proofreader, with several publications in magazines and anthologies across the UK. In 2015 I launched TSS Publishing (www.theshortstory.co.uk) a leading website and publisher for short fiction.

Hobbies include skiing, chess, sketching, and the theatre.

Tutoring Experience

I've been tutoring for over six years and have covered a range of subjects, particularly entrance exams (7+, 11+, grammar school, and private school, and Oxbridge), Creative Writing, and English language and literature (from primary up to university level).

Many of my clients arrive via word of mouth and many are long term. Please note that I do not work through agencies: I am fully independent and as such there is no 'middleman' to deal with. I work with clients on a professional one-to-one basis that is straightforward and successful.

References, DBS checks, qualifications can all be provided, on the first tutorial, if requested.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is simple: professional, but personal.

To ensure this, I set long term goals and short term goals, after initial assessments of the tutee's competency levels in the first session.

The long term goals centre around the needs of the client – whether that'’s to get an offer from a top university, pass an exam, get an A*, or simply learn about a subject.

The short term goals focus on each individual session, tailored to the client so that he or she ends the day feeling more confident, inspired, and knowledgeable.

Being professional, personal, and achieving these goals all depends upon an ability to communicate effectively with the tutee; as someone who works with people and words on a daily basis, I fully understand and appreciate the necessity of clarity, as well as good organisation.

I bring a wealth of experience and materials with me and work hard to push students to achieve their potential. I expect students to work equally hard so that the most can be made from the one or two hours available. Often the sessions are intense, but also rewarding.

Currently, my availability is limited, but please do get in touch as openings do appear. I am also looking to fill in the Easter vacation period.
