I have worked for 21 years as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with children with speech, language, communication and learning difficulties.
I have had lots of experience of working with children in schools. My background in Clinical Language Sciences has given me a solid knowledge foundation to help children acquire the skills that are needed to begin to read and to build on their phonic skills.
I am easy going, fun, friendly, outgoing and know how to put children at ease. I also help out at children's clubs.
I have tutored a wide variety of students with different needs: children needing help to read ; teenagers and adults needing help with study skills; helping students through their IELTs exams; supporting students through their GCSEs ; children who are home schooled and need support to stay on top of their English work; children who need support to get to grips with English grammar and students needing support to learn English as a second language.
I have written language programmes to help teachers support children who are struggling to access the national curriculum in terms of speech sounds, reading ,verbal comprehension, semantics, sentence structure, morphology, vocabulary, inference and prediction .
I have an easy going, yet structured approach. I am friendly and approachable. I understand that all students have different learning styles. I would develop the students potential at a pace which is developmentally appropriate for them. Small, reachable steps are always encouraged.
Depending on the age of the student, fun and encouragement are a vehicle for learning. I would establish the goal that needed to be reached and work towards it with in a relaxed but motivating manner. Building confidence is the key, by providing lots of positive feedback.
I mix with people from all different cultural and religious backgrounds and understand the barriers of learning a new language and living in a different cultural environment. I have lots of cross cultural experience.
