Personal Description:

I am a part time tutor in the subjects of Mathematics and related subjects (statistics, mechanics etc), Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Spanish. I won an international Wolfson Foundation grant to study my PhD in the area of Molecular Biology(if you are interested in the specific area I am happy to talk) and went to do research for a few years with several publications. During this time I decided that research was not my calling and moved into private industry selling and marketing mathematical and science routines internationally. The birth of my daughter led me to reassess my traveling career and I decided to set up a small company teaching language so I could be with her and support her when growing up. I have also got the conclusion that teaching and transferring knowledge to young generations is what I love to do.

Tutoring Experience:

I started teaching languages, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry at GCSE and A level many nearly 20 years ago. I do enjoy teaching as I find particularly fulfilling to transfer knowledge so that complex areas become simple and easy to understand. I have taught students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities (from public and private schools) under many examination boards including AQA, EDEXCEL,OCR, MEI, IB etc. I have taught more than 650 or students all across an area that covers 20+ miles from Banbury in the last 20 years

Tutoring Approach:

I do not just limit myself to teach your son/daughter as at the same time will help with his/her self-esteem, self belief in what she can achieve and coach, advice and guide her in what she wants to do an how to achieve his or her goals.

I do teach full topics on a session so that I can link them to other topics the following week topic. Whit theory and practice a session usually last a minimum of 90 min for GCSE and A levels. The reason I do this is that the success rate of students, when I use this approach. Recently exams have changed and are more oriented to problem solving approaches, therefore I am now making more emphasis on the problem solving area.
Depending on the student, his ability and his knowledge I will adjust my teaching method so that the maximum benefit for the time is extracted. This approach applies to Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. The aim is to create an individual that is 100% sure of what he is doing, what he knows and how to tackle unknowns (Problems). All my A level students ended going to their first choice University including two that went to Brussels and to Caltech in the USA even though some of them started with U, F, E or D mocks and low C predictions.

From experience teaching so many young people I have found that it takes an average of 6 months or so to convert an underperforming/failing student into a confident A/A* GCSE or A A-level student irrelevant from where they start from. At between 90 min to 2 hours per week you are looking at between 36 and 48 hours total to bring up a subject and there are on average 106 topics grouped in 20 subjects or so in A levels and GCSE syllabus. You will be able to notice improvement very quickly as there change will be noticeable to their teachers at school
For KS2 and KS3 you are looking at an improvement rate of one full level per 6 months. In other words, using the old system, for example a change from 6A to 7A.
