I am a fully qualified Maths teacher with a Maths Degree, QTS, PGCE and a Post Grad Cert in Coaching and Mentoring. I also have an Enhanced DBS. I am extremely passionate about Maths and about helping others to unlock their ability and achieve their maximum potential. I thrive on sharing in the eureka moments when I can see that I have helped someone to understand something which they had struggled with previously. I have 23 years of experience as an engineer too and always try to make my sessions relatable to the real world. I have extensive experience not just in teaching but also 15 years as a coach and mentor and completely understand how different we all are not just in terms of who we are but in our ability levels. I will always make each session specifically aimed towards the individual and their needs.

Tutoring Experience

Fully qualified Maths Teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Post Grad Cert in Education (PGCE) and Post Grad Cert in Coaching and Mentoring. I have a track record of helping students to achieve their full potential and go beyond their expected grades both in the classroom and during 1 to 1 tuition.

Tutoring Approach

I am truly passionate about helping you to understand Maths and all of my sessions are designed uniquely to help each individual and their own specific needs and abilities. My aim is to help you achieve your absolute maximum potential.
Tuition structure - all steps are included based upon what research has shown to be most effective.
• I will begin the first session by quickly finding out a bit more about you and your ability and agreeing with you what will be covered in the session. This could also include discussion of the results from the free diagnostic test which I will provide. Subsequent sessions will begin with a quick check of understanding from previously covered topics.
• Following this I will introduce the new topic and start by demonstrating (modelling) how to complete example questions for your chosen topic – I will ask questions to check understanding.
• We will then work through a further example together – lots of talking and questions.
• I will then observe you answering a question whilst explaining to me the process that you are going through.
• If you have completed the above successfully, you will then be given some questions to practice independently. I will observe during this stage to ensure you are still on track.
• We will repeat this I do/We do/You do process again for harder examples until the end of your session.
• I will provide a sheet of follow up questions for you to complete on set dates. This will just be 1 question after 1 day then another after 3 days, then another after 7 days, then another after 15 days, then at 1 monthly intervals until you have your exam. This is an absolutely vital part of ensuring the learning goes to your long term memory and is not lost. I will provide questions and answers to cover a year and this will be something that you do to keep track of what you have retained. If you answer a question incorrectly, let me know and I can cover it again briefly in a subsequent session.
Your session fee will also include the following FREE benefits
• Free – diagnostic test. For those who are not sure about which topics to cover I offer a free test which you can complete outside of our study time to help identify areas of development.
• Spaced retrieval practice questions– this is a vital part of learning but is almost never included as part of teaching. Research tells us that we begin to forget things almost as soon as we have learned them and that the way to put things into the long-term memory is to make sure we retrieve what we have learned at different time intervals. This will help ensure that you remember the things we have practiced together and ensure your learning time is not wasted!
• Progress history – upon request, a log of the things we have covered together and the progress you have made.
