Personal Description:

I am a fully qualified teacher, having completed a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics at the University of Roehampton (rated as Outstanding by OFSTED in 2011).
I studied BSc Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Surrey: Roehampton Institute London, gaining a Upper Second Class Honours in 1998.
I have successfully passed the Open University's Undergraduate Certificate in Mathematics (2009) and a BTEC Higher National Certificate in Mathematics, Statistics and Computing at Thames Polytechnic (1990).
I have over 25 years experience of working in ICT & Computing roles developing skills in system administration (Windows & Unix including scripting), programming (C, C++, Java, Python, BASIC, FORTRAN), software analysis and design, change, test, release and service management, IT systems strategy, technical architecture, technical authoring, staff management, etc.

Tutoring Experience:

I have helped run Geography field trips for Carshalton Boys Sports College and Wallington County Grammar School.
I have taught Mathematics at The Beacon School in Banstead, Surrey; Stanley Park High School, Carshalton Boys Sports College and Greenshaw High School in the London Borough of Sutton and the ARK Bolingbroke Academy in Wandsworth.
I have successfully tutored, in Mathematics, Computing, Geography, Physics, etc, a number of pupils from Year 6, through Key Stages 3 and 4 and also adults on HE access courses.

Tutoring Approach:

There are three key aspect to my tutoring:
1) Ensuring that pupils have grasped the concepts involved in each topic by providing clear explanations (where possible using a variety of approaches and teaching methods);
2) Providing copious exercises to embed the conceptual understanding and how to apply these;
and 3) An emphasis on how to approach (exam) questions by applying existing knowledge and skills to analyse and solve new problems.
