Teaching economics is my passion, and I take great pleasure in helping students to discover the depth and complexity of this often-misunderstood discipline. At its core, economics is the study of trade-offs and resource allocation, and its principles are applicable across a wide range of real-world scenarios, including education.

As an accomplished Associate Professor with over 12 years of experience teaching at the university level and more than 20 years of tutoring experience, I have dedicated my career to helping students understand the intricacies of economics. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am particularly proud to have received three institutional student-based teaching awards for my work as a lecturer, as well as the University Teaching Fellowship award for innovation and the University Teaching Excellence Award in Academic Teaching. I have also been nominated for a Times Higher Education award for teaching innovation, a testament to the positive impact I have had on my students and the broader field of economics.

With my deep knowledge of economics and my commitment to innovative and effective teaching methods, I am confident that I can help students at all levels to achieve their goals and reach their full potential in this fascinating and dynamic field.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked in universities for over 12 years and tutored for over twenty, to a wide range of students and on a range of my specialisms, specifically Economics, Accountancy and Statistics. At A-level I have tutored on all exam boards (including International Baccalaureate). At university, I have tutored on modules including: microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic history, econometrics, statistics, finance, financial economics, mathematics, and accounting.

Tutoring Approach

A-levels
My approach to tutoring economics has three key components that ensure success at the A-level and beyond.

Firstly, students need to develop a thorough understanding of the subject matter and become comfortable with the technical language and concepts that underpin economics. I provide comprehensive instruction on key topics and guide students through the process of recognising and applying appropriate vocabulary.

Secondly, I equip students with the essential strategies and techniques required for exam success, including how to structure answers and manage time effectively. I help them to understand the specific demands of the exams and how to maximise their performance.

Finally, I seek to inspire and motivate students to achieve higher levels of learning by engaging them with challenging ideas and encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. My ultimate goal is to foster an environment where students can confidently challenge the ideas presented to them and think independently.
By achieving these aims, my students develop the critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities that are highly valued by universities and employers. With my guidance, they will be fully equipped to navigate the challenges of higher education and succeed in the workplace.

University level
University-level economics can be a daunting prospect, with each course and module presenting its own set of unique challenges and obstacles to learning. However, with over a decade of experience teaching at the university level, I am well-equipped to help students navigate this complex terrain.

As an experienced tutor, I have taught a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic history, econometrics, statistics, finance, financial economics, mathematics, and accounting. My teaching style is based on building strong, collaborative relationships with my students, finding shared ground to create a common language and approach to studying challenging topics. I understand that each student's needs and learning styles are unique, and I work to tailor my approach to meet their individual requirements. My goal is to help students develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed at the university level, whether that be through improving their subject knowledge, developing their critical thinking and analytical skills, or enhancing their academic writing abilities.
