Richard

Currently working as an NHS Doctor undertaking Anaesthetic training, having studied medicine at the University of Sheffield, graduating with Honours in 2015 with the Sheffield Graduate Award.

Also a keen interest in education having completed the PG Certificate and PG Diploma in Medical Education.

Tutoring Experience

I have a keen interest and varied experience in teaching at both under- and postgraduate levels as well as previous experience in A-level and GCSE tutoring. To develop this further I have attained multiple postgraduate qualifications in medical education, most recently a Postgraduate Diploma.

Whilst an undergraduate I took part in peer teaching delivering teaching to those in early years of the course as well as providing tutoring to A-level and GCSE students, with demonstrable grade improvement.

Postgraduate experience includes informal teaching of junior colleagues as well as teaching on formal courses (including academic, practical, clinical and resuscitation [ALS]) and establishing educational programmes for other postgraduates and multi-disciplinary team members (including theory- and simulation-based).

Tutoring Approach

I take a relatively informal approach to teaching - initially taking time to gain an understanding of areas for development for the student and ways to improve performance and focus. Then subsequently forming a plan working towards mutually but primarily tutee-set goals.

No matter the format of teaching I strive to make teaching sessions relaxed and dynamic. This is by tailoring the session to a tutee’s needs as well as the learning methods which best suit them - maximising the tutoring time with the aim being efficient improvement in knowledge and performance.
