I am a passionate science tutor with over 12 years of experience helping students of all ages and abilities succeed. I am also currently a Head of Science in an outstanding and highly successful school.
I believe that science is a fascinating and essential subject that can help us to understand the world around us and solve real-world problems.
I am an enthusiastic and motivated science teacher who has taught in a variety of schools, colleges and Sixth form centres across the UK. I have also had the wonderful opportunity of teaching science abroad in the United Arab Emirates.
Over 12 years teaching experience, having taught a range of different courses and programmes. These include:
A-Level & AS Level Chemistry;
BTEC Level 3 Applied Science;
IB Chemistry;
GCSE Science (Combined and Separate);
GCSE Science;
Key Stage 3 Science;
I am currently teaching and so am up to date with all of the changes that have been made to curricula.
Tuition is far more than just the passing on of knowledge. My approach to tuition is three fold: developing confidence in students; building a strong knowledge base and perfecting the application of this knowledge. Invariably this will involve enabling my students to make strong links across the various topics and concepts in Chemistry. This is fundamental in truly understanding the Sciences and has become a key focus across all of the new specifications at GCSE and A-Level. I use a range of models, analogies and demonstrations to help elucidate abstract ideas. Students will often become more confident as sessions continue and this is consolidated with the use of exam questions and past paper questions. Students are encouraged to undertake and complete past paper questions to build their fluency in tackling exams: marks dropped in exams can usually be attributed to a lack of pace in answering questions; a lack of knowledge; not fully understanding what the question is asking and misinterpreting questions. These will be overcome by applying knowledge directly in lessons.
Online tuition provides a robust and effective method of remote tuition. Using the latest technology, students will be provided with real time notes, annotations and problems. Furthermore, the lesson resources will be available for students to download immediately after the lesson allowing them to go back over the lesson and consolidate their learning. Gone are the days of the clunky keyboard, mouse and camera setup! Instead the use of tablets and smart technology means that reaction mechanisms; organic chemistry; calculations and equations as well as real-time run throughs of pdf and word files, can easily be shared across Google Meets.
I predominantly tutor online and have a successful track record of delivering immersive and interactive tuition online using a combination of iPad whiteboard applications and other tools.
I have a proven track record of success in helping students to improve their grades, develop a deeper understanding of science concepts, and prepare for exams. I am also passionate about helping students to develop their love of science and to inspire them to pursue STEM careers.
If you or your child is struggling with science, or if you are simply looking for a tutor to help you or your child reach their full potential, I would be honored to work with you.
