Rachele

I'm an Italian native speaker, born in the Italian part of Switzerland.
I completed two degrees in multilingual communication and translation (BA and MSc), during which I practiced translating from English and French into Italian. My academic path therefore allowed me to study Italian in greater detail, improving my sensitivity to the subtleties of the language and my writing skills. I currently work both as an Italian tutor as well as a freelance translator (specialising in subtitling) and, due to the nature of these jobs and their requirements, I constantly write, speak or listen to Italian as well as follow the changes and evolution of this beautiful language!

In general, I love languages and linguistics (I could probably call myself a “linguistic nerd”!) and being able to share this passion with other people, and that’s one of the reasons why I like teaching. I also think that knowing another language is a great advantage in both one’s personal and professional life and I would therefore encourage everyone to learn new languages.

Having been a student myself and learned different languages (e.g. German, Spanish, French, English), I know what difficulties one might encounter and I can share a few tricks to overcome them. Moreover, to make the tutoring sessions as useful and effective as possible, I aim at having a very personalised teaching methodology, making sure to take into account the student’s necessities, skills as well as possible learning difficulties. Finally, I try to make the classes challenging but also entertaining, with a mix of listening, speaking and writing exercises that concern Italian grammar but also Italian culture. In this way, the students will gain a general cultural knowledge of Italian, and not only a linguistic one.

I am over the moon that I have found Rachele here at FirstTutors. At the moment we can only meet online due to the covid restrictions, but this has not impeded the quality of lesson and thus the learning experience at all.

If you are looking for an all-round and/or specialised tutor, Rachele is the one!

I have studied Italian previously at university and so I was looking for a tutor to improve and sustain my level of Italian, as well as help me work towards my end goal of becoming a translator. Rachele has been incredibly accommodating with all my requests and has gone above and beyond assisting me with my project objectives. Due to her work and academic experience, she has a lot of insight and useful information/ tips to provide too.

In terms of our lessons, they are more than fairly priced for what she offers and especially because she dedicates a lot of her time outside of class too. I find that each lesson is well-planned and organised in a way to cover a range of language-based techniques to acquire Italian fully and in all its complexity. They are also tailored to your needs, interests and objectives so are interesting and engaging too!

Rachele has all the qualities of an excellent tutor. First of all, she's flexible with the hours that she offers which is useful if you are someone that may have time-management restrictions. Secondly, she is very conscientious so she understands the demands of other work/life activities and thus plans a workload and home-tasks that are manageable and reasonable. Thirdly, she is hard-working and so puts in a lot of energy and time into each lesson but also outside of class she will send relevant learning materials to assist you in your language learning trajectory. Fourthly, she has excellent communication skills, and so is very quick at responding to emails, answering with very substantial answers so that everything is satisfyingly covered!

Lastly, and it must be highlighted, she is an overall lovely, creative and intelligent person to work and study with and I look forward to every lesson.
