Hi, I'm Rachel, and I work as a Project Manager in Technology. I hold a BSc in Mathematics, an MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry, and a PhD in Mathematical Biology. I am currently able to able to offer tutoring for Maths, Physics, and 11+ entrance exams.
I have a lot of experience in teaching children with a range of abilities - I am happy to prepare students for exams or even just further their interest in a subject. I am a patient teacher and a good communicator. I am understanding, and skilled at coming up with alternative approaches to aid learning.
I have an excellent tutoring track record, with all of my students improving by a minimum of 1 grade in their examinations since starting lessons with me.
I completed the Student Associate Scheme in 2009 which involved a three week placement in a Coventry school. In 2013 I took part in the highly competitive Brilliant Club scheme, in which I delivered university-style tutorials to school children with an aim to furthering access to top universities. In addition, I have previously been a teaching assistant for the SHINE scheme in Greater Manchester which aimed to academically stretch able children from deprived backgrounds.
I use a mixture of online and paper resources. With exam preparation an emphasis will be placed on looking at past paper questions and going through the contents of the syllabus. Homework will be set, and will be expected to be done in order for the student to proceed.
I believe that it is important to understand where ideas and equations come from. Therefore, I place an emphasis on understanding, not just rote learning.
