Personal Description:
I am an experienced English and Drama teacher, as well as being a team leader and examiner of AQA GCSE English and English Literature. I also offer educational Drama workshops to schools, libraries and education centres. I live with my husband, who is a musician and music teacher and two children aged 17 and 10. We live in Seaham in County Durham so I am fairly centrally located for tuition across much of the North East of England.
Tutoring Experience:
I've taught English and Drama in secondary schools for 24 years, preparing students for written and practical examinations for English and Drama at GCSE and BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting). I am currently an 'A' graded examiner for AQA English GCSE paper 1 and lead a team of 8 other examiners. As an examiner of English Literature and Drama at GCSE level, I feel I'm very familiar with what examiners expect to see from students. I am also enjoying tutoring adults with English as a Second Language and am gaining valuable experience of teaching the Cambridge English: First (FCE) qualification.
Tutoring Approach:
I am an excellent communicator, in terms of both public speaking and one to one situations. I have led mentoring programmes and enjoy helping students on a one to one basis. I enjoy inspiring confidence in my students and also make myself available if students need advice. Experience has taught me how to monitor a student's learning development and personalise learning in order to take actions quickly to address any potential problems or issues. My classroom management skills have been regularly praised during lesson observations. Work scrutinies are positive, highlighting my organisational and administration achievements as well as effective relationships with students.
