Hi I'm Priya , I have a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Developmental Psychology, with a particular interest in literacy (including literacy attainment and specific literacy difficulties). I am currently completing a PhD in psychology, but I have previously worked with children and young people in a range of educational settings. These roles included assessing and supporting students who were not meeting age-related expectations and providing 1:1 and small group targeted interventions for specific areas of the curriculum.
I have tutored primary school children, across both KS1 and KS2, for 4 years. I have extensive experience working with students to prepare them for their KS2 SATs for which I have received excellent feedback and results. Additionally, I have experience tutoring A-level psychology and undergraduate psychology (including exam preparation, assignment support and proof-reading).
I have previously worked as a learning support teacher and a classroom assistant in primary schools, I have a strong grasp of the primary curriculum and access to exam papers and resources. Both of these previous roles involved assessing students who had difficulty working within age-related expectations, and then developing and implementing appropriate intervention packages to support them. As a tutor, these experiences allow me to easily identify a students individual needs and quickly devise an appropriate plan for their tuition sessions.
I have also worked for many years as an Assistant Educational Psychologist. Therefore, I have experience co-ordinating phonics schemes, developing and adapting curriculum resources and delivering 1:1 and small group sessions in core subjects.
I am empathetic, patient and can easily explain new concepts to children. I believe that the most important thing about tuition is to build a rapport with the child, to allow them to grow in confidence and competent learners, whilst gaining necessary skills. Each session will be tailored to the unique needs of your child to make sure that they make great progress!
I would assess your child's needs in our first session together and speak to you about the areas you feel they need the most help with. This would allow us to create an individualised plan to build their skills and confidence.
