Philip

Hello! My name is Philip and I hold Masters Degrees in both science and business subjects. I read my masters science degree at Downing College, Cambridge University and this covered: mathematics, physics, geology, crystalline materials and computing. I have a passion for helping students to develop their full potential in maths and physics. I have over 40 years experience in the IT industry working for a number of household-name companies. I am a specialist in IT Security (also known as Cyber Security) and am therefore able to bring real-world examples to aid my students' understanding of the practical nature of their studies. I am married and have three grown-up children who have all achieved their academic goals and are now working professionally in the teaching, medical and local government sectors.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring students at Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-Level and Degree (First Year) level since 2018. I have experience of teaching individuals and small groups both inside and outside of my day-to-day work. I also have experience as an effective mentor and coach.

Tutoring Approach

My aim is firstly to listen carefully to my students as they describe their successes, challenges and aspirations in their chosen subjects. Then I am able to focus my efforts in helping them to capitalise on their existing knowledge, gain confidence in their emerging skill-set and overcome any "bottle-necks" in their understanding. My overall hope is that my students will come to love mathematics and physics as life-long companions … as well as excelling in their academic examinations!
