I have a maths degree from Exeter University.
I am a qualified teacher and have been tutoring maths for 40 years.
I’m also CRB and DBS checked.

I cover years 8 to 13 including GCSE (9-1 syllabus), A level (the syllabus being taught in schools from 2017). Adult pupils are welcome.

I have an extensive archive of past exam papers from all the UK examination boards.

I have my own website, designed and created by me, for pupils to practice maths topics from times tables up to GCSE and A Level.
The website keeps the student's score for each topic so they can see themselves improve.
It’s completely free to use.

The lessons are one hour and it's £35 per hour.
I can come to you or you can come to me (Bexleyheath) or we can use Zoom.
You can have lessons weekly, fortnightly, monthly or as and when you wish.
You are not obliged to have any number of lessons or to make a block booking.
There's no charge if you need to cancel a lesson but please do give me as much notice as possible.
If you come fairly regularly, you can regard the day and time as your "slot" and it won't be given to anyone else.
But if you can't make it for a particular lesson, let me know and someone else can use that slot temporarily.

Tutoring Experience

I've been tutoring maths for 40 years.

Tutoring Approach

You have to listen to what the pupil is saying.
All pupils are different and their misunderstandings are different too.
My attitude to them is that they are free to ask about any maths topic and we'll sort it out.
It's not like school where the teacher decides the subject content.
Of course, if the pupil doesn't have anything particular in mind or is not sure of their weaknesses, I can pitch the lesson towards what they need to know and take them beyond their current level of ability.

I like to make sure they really understand the topic rather than learn it by rote.
I find most pupils are keen to learn and are pleased when they grasp the ideas.
Then they find school maths lessons more enjoyable as well.

I'm happy to help with homework, but I don't do their homework for them.
Rather, I'll show them how to do similar questions and then let them do their own questions themselves.
That gives them the satisfaction of knowing they understand it and can do it themselves.
