After a hugely enjoyable career as a teacher in London and the South East, I retired and returned to Merseyside in 2015. Originally from Liverpool, I left after A Levels to go to university in London (Imperial College, BSc ARCS in Mathematics) where I stayed to train as a teacher (UCL Institute of Education, PGCE in Secondary Mathematics Education) and worked alternately in comprehensive and independent schools. Currently, I am an Assistant Examiner in IGCSE Additional Mathematics, International A Level Mathematics and International A Level Further Pure Mathematics with a major examinations syndicate.
32 years: 8 in comprehensives in London and Sussex, 9 in an independent school in Sussex, 6 as a supply teacher for West Sussex County Council, 1 in a Brighton comprehensive and 8 in an independent school in Surrey. I chose to do supply work while our children were very young and that flexibility allowed me to establish a successful tuition business, which I shared with my wife, in the village of Henfield in Sussex. During this time I also worked as an examiner in Mathematics for several examination boards.
I like to combine passion for teaching Mathematics with sensitivity to the needs of each student. Thorough professionalism will aim to ensure that everyone achieves the highest qualification possible so that they can move on to the next stage of their academic career with confidence; work hard and success can be yours!
